Don Cherry - Relativity Suite - JCOA Records UK 1974 NM/VG+
90 €
Relativity Suite was recorded in 1973 with the support of Carla Bley on piano, Cherry's wife Moki on tambura, a string quintet led by the violinist Leroy Jenkins, a saxophone quartet (Frank Lowe, Dewey Redman, Carlos Ward and Charles Brackeen), a brass trio (tuba/cor/trombone), two percussionists (Ed Blackwell and Paul Motian) and Charlie Haden on bass. The music here illustrates what Socrates called maieutics, the art of giving birth to the mind. Indeed, Cherry manages here to synthesize everything that has been maturing in him since he started his organic musical collages, all in only thirty minutes. The objective of bringing together the voices of universality is more than achieved. Cherry shows his mysticism and concretizes his ambitions to mix jazz and world music. Originally released in the US in 1973, this is the first UK press. Cover is EX.
